Author Signing – Prince: Before the Rain @ Moon Palace, 3032 Minnehaha Ave • Noon
Join us for a signing with Allen Beaulieu, author and photographer of Prince: Before the Rain. An inside look at the early years of Prince, presented through both iconic and never-before-seen images taken by the photographer who was at his side through it all. Photographer Allen Beaulieu worked with Prince from the late 1970s into the early ’80s, capturing the musician’s progression from rising star to his ultimate purple superstardom. Always at Prince’s side with camera in hand, Beaulieu helped Prince carry forward his vision with legendary album cover images and promotional photos during the groundbreaking Dirty Mind, Controversy, and 1999 era, while also capturing live performances on tour with Prince. Prince: Before the Rain puts into focus the hallmark imagery—including behind the- scenes, candid, and casual shots—with recollections from Beaulieu on his personal and professional relationship with Prince. Going deeper into the context of these crucial years, supplemental text brings it all together with reminiscences from former bandmates, including Bobby Z., Dez Dickerson, André Cymone, and more. Allen Beaulieu was Prince’s photographer and friend beginning in the late 1970s. He photographed three album covers and toured extensively with the artist. He later worked for Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Spin. One of his photos graces the cover of the new Piano & a Microphone release. https://www.moonpalacebooks.com//?q=h.calevent&eid=4824

A Magical Story Time @ Boneshaker Books, 2002 23rd Ave S • 11am
It is our mission with this story time to promote children’s books that shine a spotlight on a wide array of racial and cultural identities, genders, orientations, experiences and abilities. We want to create a space that places a special emphasis on promoting self love, empathy and a greater understanding of the strange, magical world we inhabit. There is serious deficit in children’s books that depict protagonists who are a people of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ or any combination of the above. That is why Madeline and Sam’s Magical Story Time seeks out books that do just that. Positive representation in books is crucial to a child’s development of a positive self image. It can be absolutely life affirming for a child to see a protagonist who reflects them accomplishing anything they set their mind to. It is also crucial in developing empathy for a child to experience diversity at a young age. This story time will not only be educational, but spectacularly fun! Before each reading we will have one minute wiggle parties and coloring pages that correlate with that weeks books. Come out to Boneshaker Books every Sunday between 11 AM and Noon starting June 9th to experience a story time that celebrates every child for the magical person that they are! Let’s have some fun!

He sings with a distinctive bass-rich voice, only a six-foot six inch gentle giant could be blessed with. Add his fat harmonica playing, dead-on phrasing, commanding stage-presence and instant audience rapport and it’s easy to understand why the audience howls when he delivers his music. #FreeMusicWednesdays

This will be a reserved seat concert. James Samuel “Cornbread” Harris, Sr. (born April 23, 1927) is an American musician and Twin Cities legend. The Cornbread, as he often refers to himself, has been playing blues, boogie-woogie and rock n roll piano for Twin Cities audiences for decades…roughly 7 of them now. Yes, Cornbread opened for The King (Elvis). Yes, a young Cornbread appeared on MN’s first recorded rock & roll record (with Augie Garcia). Yes, Cornbread has been the recipient of numerous prestigious (Blues Hall of Fame, Sally Award, etc.) recognitions. Yes, Cornbread is Jimmy Jam’s dad. But, the fact that Cornbread still holds down weekly and monthly gigs across the Twin Cities at restaurants like The Loring Pasta Bar and Hells Kitchen, as well as playing local music venues, weddings, churches, old folks homes and private events as often as he can, is what might just make him the most special artist in our artist-rich community. Please join us as we celebrate the holidays with a 91 year old living legend, James Samuel ‘Cornbread’ Harris, Sr.
