SUMMARY:One South Connect
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 11\, 2025\n11:00 AM – 1:00 PM\nColiseum Building: 2708 E Lake St\, Minneapolis\nRegistration Required; please register at www.corcoranmpls.org/events \n  \n  \nFor more than four decades\, neighborhood organizations in Minneapolis have sought to strengthen our communities by understanding and advocating for collective needs\, managing programs that provide a range of resources\, and organizing beloved events that bring together tens of thousands of residents each year. \nMinneapolis neighborhood organizations first took shape in the 80s\, and as the funding and political landscape changed\, their collective effort has remained invaluable\, but not nearly as sustainable. The SUN Collective (Southside United Neighborhoods) launched One South in 2022 to find a collaborative path forward to protect the vital work of neighborhood organizations for decades to come.  \nSUN secured dedicated funding from Target Corporation in 2023 to explore and expand the project. In May 2025\, participating neighborhood organizations organized “One South Connect: Imagining Sustainable Futures” at the Historic Coliseum Building. The event sought to engage community members in understanding the present-day challenges that affect neighborhood organizations and identify strategic opportunities and collaborative systems that may better serve neighborhood organizations in the long run. Over 60 community members participated\, including political stakeholders\, business owners\, and residents\, who shared important insights and ideas. \nOne South Connect: Building Sustainable Futures in October seeks to deepen the conversation that has already begun. Rather than a focus on imagining\, community members are asked to reflect on the steps that must be done to build the future in which neighborhood organizations are more sustainably resourced.  \nFREE FOOD & POWERFUL ENTERTAINMENT \nOne South Connect: Building Sustainable Futures will be catered by Caffrey’s Deli and Subs\, a beloved\, family-owned\, local deli that has served Minneapolis for over 20 years. Caffrey’s specifically uplifts and supports the work of neighborhood organizations through catering programs and discounts\, creating access to thoughtful\, homey foods fit for any occasion. Enjoy Caffrey’s classic subs and sandwiches at One South Connect for free\, including gluten free and vegan options.  \nThe event will not only be united through meaningful discussion\, but through song. The Give Get Sistet\, represented at One South Connect by Jayanthi Rajasa\, Kenna Cottman\, and Sarah M. Greer\, will offer powerful entertainment rooted in community\, Black sisterhood\, and improvisation. Using a cappella singing and vocal improvisation\, the Give Get Sistet educates and empowers audiences while singing with generosity and daring. Their music serves to ground the space and conversation while offering participants connection and hope.
