DESCRIPTION:In May of 1863\, following the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln\, hundreds of African Americans fled slavery on two steamboats provided by the military at Fort Snelling. What happened to these families after entering the same site where Dred Scott and dozens more were enslaved by the same U.S Military? \nJoin us for the premiere of filmmaker Sophia Watkins’ documentary tracing the history of three African American families in the Greater Longfellow Neighborhood: The Lees\, the McMoores\, and the Websters. Panel discussion to follow with family members and other guests moderated by the honorable Judge LaJune Lange.
