Lawns to Legumes – Demonstration Neighborhood Project

Longfellow Community Council: Lawns to Legumes Demonstration Neighborhood Project

Thanks to funding from the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) Lawns to Legumes Demonstration Neighborhood Grant Program, the Longfellow Community Council (LCC) has completed two projects to help increase pollinator habitat, educate residents, and support conservation efforts around the endangered Rusty-Patched Bumble Bee in Greater Longfellow.

Native Pollinator Garden Program

Ready Made Native Pollinator Garden Program

This program installed 22 new residential pollinator gardens equaling a total of 2,850 sq ft of new native pollinator habitat in Greater Longfellow. This includes 11 rain gardens and 11 native pocket plantings.

Gardening for Wildlife Mentorship Program

This program matched new gardeners with experienced mentors for an intensive educational and community building experience. More than 32 residents designed and installed native pollinator gardens, which created 9,420 sq ft of new pollinator habitat in Greater Longfellow.
