General resources
  • City of Minneapolis Renter Resources
  • Neighborhood Community Relations – This City department has a list of financial, housing, and legal resources for renters.
  • Rental Housing Liaison – Regulatory Services has employees that work closely with Inspections staff supporting renters in housing issues, including finding resources for renters in tough situations, coordinating between renters, owners and City staff and also working with renters to understand the work of Inspections Services.
  • HOME Line – A nonprofit Minnesota tenant advocacy organization.
LEGAL RESOURCES
  • Legal Aid – Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid offers free civil legal assistance to low-income people facing eviction, housing discrimination, and more.
  • Volunteer Lawyers Network – Non-profit organization dedicated to connecting Minnesotans experiencing poverty with some of the top private lawyers in the state at no cost.
  • Minnesota Attorney General – Landlord and tenants: Rights and responsibilities.
  • Minnesota Tenant Report Form – If your landlord’s actions feel like intimidation or retaliation, report it. If you can’t navigate the form you can call the consumer complaint line at (651) 296-3353.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES
  • Housing Link – Nonprofit organization providing affordable rental housing information.
  • Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA) – Administers public housing for eligible individuals and families in Minneapolis.
  • Energy Assistance Program– If you need help paying utility bills such as electric or gas, you may be eligible for the Energy Assistance Program.
