Longfellow Community Council
The Longfellow Community Council is the citizen participation group for Cooper, Hiawatha, Howe, and Longfellow. LCC is a community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit citizen participation organization that represents the interests of community residents and businesses in the Greater Longfellow area. Greater Longfellow has approximately 21,000 residents, 7,000 households and over 450 businesses.
We develop, protect and enhance neighborhood assets through community engagement.

What is Greater Longfellow?
The Greater Longfellow community is made up of four individual neighborhoods: Cooper, Hiawatha, Howe, and Longfellow. Together, these neighborhoods are represented by the Longfellow Community Council. LCC represents over 21,000 residents and more than 400 businesses, making it the largest neighborhood in Minneapolis both by population and geographic extent.
Where is Greater Longfellow?
The Greater Longfellow community is defined by four unique boundaries, which also happen to be some of our community’s greatest amenities.
To the north is the Midtown Greenway, a bicycle and pedestrian trail linking the Mississippi River across South Minneapolis to Uptown and the Chain of Lakes in the west.
Our eastern boundary is the aforementioned Mississippi River. Longfellow is home to a particularly beautiful stretch of the river known as the Mississippi River Gorge.
To the south is Minnehaha Park, the location of Minnehaha Falls, which is why Longfellow is nicknamed the “Neighborhood By the Falls”.
Lastly, to the West is the Hiawatha Light Rail line, which links Longfellow to downtown Minneapolis, MSP International Airport, and the Mall of America.
What Neighborhoods Make Up Greater Longfellow?
Longfellow
The Longfellow neighborhood is bound by the Midtown Greenway to the north, 38th Ave S to the east, 34th St. E to the South and Hiawatha Ave. to the west. It was named after the poet Henry Wadswoth Longfellow.
Cooper
The Cooper neighborhood is bound by 27th St E. to the north, the Mississippi River on the east, 34th St. E. to the south and 38th Ave. S. on the west.
Howe
The Howe neighborhood is bound by 34th St. E. to the north, Mississippi River to the east, 40th St. E to the south and Hiawatha Ave. to the west. It was named after Julia Ward Howe, an American poet, abolitionist and social activist.
Hiawatha
The Hiawatha neighborhood is bound by 40th St E. to the north, the Mississippi River to the east, Minnehaha Regional Park to the south and Hiawatha Ave. to the west.
