Dear community, We stand in solidarity with our Dear community,

We stand in solidarity with our community and neighbors as we mourn the tragic and senseless murder of Renee Nicole Good.

Longfellow Community Council (LCC) is a neighborhood-based organization dedicated to improving the well-being of our diverse community. Our goal is to foster a vibrant and inclusive community for all who live, work, and play in Cooper, Hiawatha, Howe, and Longfellow neighborhoods. We cannot accomplish this with ICE in our neighborhoods.

Recent federal actions have left many families in our neighborhood afraid to leave their homes, facing increased food insecurity, job instability, lost income, and the threat of eviction. Children fear attending school, and everyday activities like taking public transit now feel unsafe for many community members. The fear and provocation by federal agents in our neighborhoods over the past months go against everything that the Longfellow Community Council stands for. This is an affront to our community’s values, and we call for ICE to immediately leave our City.

We stand firmly against all forms of violence, family separation, and the harm caused by actions claimed to increase safety but that instead bring trauma and fear. We urge everyone to exercise their rights safely and responsibly. Keep yourself updated with accurate information, reach out to your neighbors, and get involved with local groups working on these important issues as your capacity allows.

Minneapolis is well-known for its sense of community and commitment to democracy. Now, more than ever, we must come together to support, uplift, and care for one another. By taking action and standing in solidarity, we can demonstrate that in our neighborhood, community is a lived value, not just an abstract concept.

Our mission is to enhance the well-being of our diverse community, and this goal cannot be achieved when lies, fear and intimidation further traumatize a community that has already experienced significant pain and upheaval in its history.
To the residents, businesses, and organizations of Longfellow and all of Minneapolis that are being attacked and marginalized: We stand with you. Our strength is in our community bonds. Stay safe, look out for one another, and let our collective voice be heard.
