Minneapolis Public Schools will be holding a meeting about the Cooper playground on Thursday, November 2 at 6pm at Howe Elementary.
Based on an inspection of the age and condition of the equipment, it was recommended that the playground located behind the closed Cooper Elementary School be removed by MPS. Many of you in the community have spoken up about how important this space is and the scheduled removal has been paused while MPS looks at all possible solutions.
A group called Save Minneapolis Parks is advocating on behalf of saving the playground and brainstorming ideas to gather support for a playground to remain at Cooper Elementary School. Learn more about them on Facebook or email
MPS will be posting signage to let park attendees know of compromised structures within the playground.
The hope is to work with Council Member Johnson, Park Commissioner Alper, as well as community members and neighborhood associations to come to a solution. We hope to see you at this community gathering.
