Background info from Catholic Charities:

For 20 years, Hope Street has been located on the Catholic Charities St. Joseph’s Home for Children Campus. While the program has built strong ties to the surrounding neighborhood, the building itself no longer meets the needs of youth experiencing homelessness. In December 2021, Catholic charities learned of an opportunity to move the program to a new building in the Hiawatha neighborhood in Minneapolis. We are excited about this new location for many reasons:

  • Single rooms will provide safety, privacy and dignity for youth who have a history of trauma or who identify as LGBTQ+
  • Walkability and access to transit will allow youth to travel to school and work
  • Nearby employment opportunities for youth
  • An accepting neighborhood that will welcome diverse youth

Additional info:

  • Serves young people from 18 to 24 years of age
  • Offers 24-hour access to emergency shelter for up to 30 youth
  • Encompasses both an emergency shelter and permanent supportive housing
  • Average stay is 39 days, but youth may stay up to 90 days if necessary
  • Showers, meals, and comprehensive case management are provided
