Mother Earth Gardens: Longfellow Gems Feature

Looking to get into the Spring and Summer spirit with some fresh, outdoor, beautiful plants? Or perhaps to brighten up your indoor living space with some greenery? Mother Earth Gardens is your hub for all things plants, and their accessories. Recommended by the people of Longfellow themselves, Mother Earth Gardens is a certified Longfellow gem and small business destined to make its way onto your must-go list. They’re also open year round, and pride themselves on sustainably grown plants no matter the weather!

Mother Earth Gardens has an extremely large variety of plants for all seasons. Additionally, they also have a whole plethora of pots, big and small and in tons of fun and unique colors and patterns. They even have crochet hangers to suspend the pots from the ceiling!

According to their website, in the Spring and Summer, this is when they sell their flowers, vegetables, herbs, seeds, and other warmer weather geared plants. During autumn, they provide locally grown gourds, pumpkins, branches, bushes, flowering bulbs, and numerous varieties of garlic. During the Winter months, they sell wreaths, pots, swags, and greens/florals for you to create with. They also sell jewelry, home goods, art, and other non-plant related items. Lastly, no matter the season, they always sell houseplants and succulents.

Mother Earth Gardens has a variety of outdoor plants, starters, and garden supplies at their Longfellow location across from the Riverview Theater.

On top of their plant and accessories inventory, they also have an entire tool section towards the back of the shop if you’re starting from scratch. The employees are also extremely friendly and reactive to being asked for advice, so there is always help around the corner when you need it.

As mentioned before, Mother Earth Gardens prides itself on the idea of sustainability and community support. According to their website, their philosophy is: “At Mother Earth Gardens we strive to provide you with beautiful plants and products, but a central part of our mission is also to choose plants and products that have been grown, produced, and delivered in a sustainable manner. We talk about the following words in our buying and decision-making: organic, native, sustainable, local, family, independently and cooperatively owned. We are trying to incorporate one or more of those words into as many products as possible. While we are far from perfect, especially in the difficult gift area, we are doing our best to mix in as many responsibly produced products as we can. More and more gift and decor items are becoming available that combine sustainability and beauty.”

Their community support derives from all sorts of places, and they state “Just as Mother Earth Gardens considers its plants and products as part of a greater cycle, we believe our small business plays an important role in the larger community.” On their website, they have a list of the initiatives that they’ve supported through their business, including Midtown Farmers Market, Urban Roots, and Friends of Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden.

With their beautiful assortment of items all packed into a gorgeous package for you to shop from year around, as well as their ongoing commitment to community support and sustainability practices, Mother Earth Gardens is more than worth a visit. See for yourself what the community is raving about!
