Need somewhere to fill your Taco Tuesday needs? Longfellow has some excellent options for you, and they’re local businesses with authentic charm! This week, we will be highlighting some authentic Latino restaurants in the Longfellow area for you to check out.
Habeneros Tacos Grill
Habeneros is an authentic Mexican restaurant that serves the Longfellow, East Lake, and Powderhorn neighborhoods of Minneapolis. They’ve been around since 2015.
They cook all of their food from scratch, right in-house. They serve real, ancestral food that’s fully genuine to Mexican culture and recipes that have been passed down for generations. They have plenty of options to choose from, such as fajitas, burrito bowls, and more; but their specialty is tacos. If you’re into spicy food especially, this is a great option to turn up the heat and try some authentic, flavorful cuisine. Tacos El Primo
Tacos El Primo is a homey, local taco restaurant in the Twin Cities. They also operate multiple food trucks around the cities outside of their restaurant. They’ve been around since 2011 and are a family-owned business.
According to their website, they serve “the finest tacos and the fastest service.” They specialize in tacos but serve a great quesadilla menu as well. With flexibility in where they’re located, there’s a multitude of opportunities to try their delicious cuisine!

Mi Mexico Querido
Mi Mexico Querido is a “Mexican seafood paradise” with an “unforgettable dining experience” according to their website. They have a strong passion for the dishes they serve and have a Minneapolis location as well as a St. Paul location. They opened their Longfellow location in the former Dumplings spot on Minnehaha several months ago.
If you love seafood and authentic Mexican dishes, then this is a wonderful place for you to indulge! They advertise that you can “dive into a world of delectable Mexican flavors and fresh seafood delights.” They have a wide selection of dishes, with some of the categories on their menu being egg-based dishes, Tortas, Fajitas, Soups, and more. So even if you aren’t a seafood lover, there is something for you to try! The decor is also so cute and whimsical – it would be a great date night spot.

Burritos El Patron
Burritos El Patron is a local Mexican restaurant with a rich history of Mexican-American cuisine. According to their website, they’re into “adding touches of flavors and aromas that make us unique, without ever forgetting the roots that gave it life.” Additionally, they describe that “fusion of cultures from the center and north of Mexico adding the perfect touch of American culinary culture, is where ‘El Patron’ was born, providing the most extraordinary menu in flavors that you will love!”
If tacos aren’t your thing, then Burritos El Patron is an alternative option. They also offer burrito bowls, nachos, quesadillas, chimichangas, and more- plus burgers! With an expansive menu and a history of providing unique, authentic flavors for a Mexican-American fusion, this restaurant is sure to rock your world.

Sonora Grill
Sonora Grill serves a modern take on traditional Mexican food, and has two locations (Longfellow and Loring Park), with the Loring Park one featuring a Latin-American bar on top of being a grill. They pride themselves on using the freshest ingredients in their cuisine and advertise a beautiful patio that is first come first serve.
They have unique and trendy items such as eggplant fries and a roasted mushroom dish but also serve various quesadillas, salads, burritos, steak, and more. They have an eclectic menu with unique dishes and interesting blends of ingredients/flavors. If you enjoy traditional Mexican cuisine but want to change it up, this place will bring out out of the usual comfort zone. Additionally, the specialty bar option, appeals to those that are into the bar scene and specialty 21+ drinks – their margaritas are delicious and on their happy hour during the week.
